The Colon Free Zone is located on the Atlantic side of the Isthmus. It is possible to travel there from Panama City, located on the Pacific side and where Tocumen International Airport is located, by automobile, train or bus. Cars may easily be rented upon arrival at the airport and theri rates range from US$ 35 per day. Colon is located about two hours by road from the airport or one and a half hours from Panama City. Taxis are available from Tocumen Airport or city hotels and charge approximately US$ 60 for one to four persons for one-way trip. I recommend talk with the driver´s cap before. Traveling by bus is cheaper. Air conditioned express buses leave for Colon every half hour until 11 a.m. and thereafter, every hour on the hour. They charge US$ 2.00 for one-way trip. The non-stop journey takes one hour and fifteen minutes. (I prefer the Air conditioned express) Regular no air-conditioned buses are also available. They charge US$1.25 each way and take longer due to constant stopping along the route. Another option is railroad. The train leaves the terminal in Corozal at 7:15 a.m. and returns from Colon at 5:15 p.m., arriving in Panama City at 6:15 p.m. A return ticket costs US$ 35, a one way ticket costs US$ 20. You coul call to (507) 317-6070. One advantage of travel in this option is the beautiful view of the travel.

Additional advices that you need remember You must to go early (to arrive at the 8:30 a.m.) and glides to be in Zone at least until afternoon, Zone Free of Columbus is place immense and if you do not have idea that looking for you can be lost, you are desired you can see the map we have two links here that will allow to see two maps you of Free Zone of Colon. Diagram and Satelital Map. (this map are from la Asociación de Usuarios de la Zona Libre de Colón) You must go preparation to walk much if it does not watch the diagram and you will see the enormous thing that it is the Free Zone. Colon is a city that has sporadic rains and remembers that Panama is a tropical country with a humid climate that divides equally about 30 degrees Celsius, I advise to comfortable clothes. There are not restaurants only some places accessible and clean but if you don´t like to eat hot dog, hamburgers and meals of the Middle East (Arab and Jewish) it is better than you take your own food. In order to eat another type of food you must leave the Free Zone and I consider that valuable time of purchases for you is a loss you. In the Entry doors you can request a map that normally is free or can print the link that we have provided to you. In addition they can help you to find what you look for. Outside you will find many people who can be your guides and they will help you with the documents but I do not recommend that you can recieve help with the consultant's office and also everything is free. In addition you save some dollars. You must ask if you can buy, many store do not let sell detail product (only wholesales) before carrying out the purchase to the salesmen, in addition if the purchases went to the wholesale, you must use a transport properly authorized and the merchandise must fulfill the red tape yet customs so that it is sent to your country by load. But you carried out the purchases retail, you must ask that they directly send to the Airport the International of Tocumen (PTY). You retire so that them before returning to your country. I recommend that the day that you go away of Panama you arrive before to carry out your retirement and to avoid any disadvantage that can happen like confusions or deviation of the merchandise.
