Boarding a twin-engine 30-passenger plane in Panama City for the one hour flight to Bocas Town, you sense you´re among knowledgeable travelers. By all clues they are an international mix of proffesors, students, surfers,backpackers, and familes, whose casual attire suggests common anticipation of what many consider Bocas Town’s most enticing activity: Hanging around.
Some of the world´s great destinations have made relaxing so pricey and regimented it´s either unaffordable or boring, but not so on Isla Colón where “hanging around” is a value added activity. In quaint open air restaurant-bars built over the wáter, one could almost expect to see Humphrey Bogart catching the breeze and surveying nearby islands while sipping a cerveza and sampling ceviche.
